This updated version of the SG 543 enhances the established 543 platform, widely adopted by the Chilean military, with several modern features. Upgrades include a flat-top picatinny rail for optics, a foldable and telescopic polymer stock for adaptability, and a picatinny quad rail for mounting accessories, elevating the rifle's adaptability for diverse operational needs. The SG 543-1M, featuring a long barrel for a lighter front-end compared to the SG 540-1M with its full-length gas system, has been eagerly anticipated for 3.5 years, and availability is limited.

The SG 543-1M operates on a gas system with a rotating bolt, engineered by Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG) in the 1970s, chambered for 5.56x45 NATO. Its design, inspired by the AK-47, ensures durability and reliability through a long-stroke piston and rotating bolt action. A recoil spring encircling the gas piston simplifies operation. The rifle includes a 3-position gas regulator (0 – Off, 1 – Normal, 2 – Extreme Conditions/Fouled), optimizing performance across conditions without necessitating overgassing. Its steel receiver, divided between upper and lower sections for the barrel/action and trigger mechanism/magazine well respectively, features quick-release push pins for swift disassembly. The polymer magazines are designed for 5/30 rounds, with a bolt hold-open feature after the last round. With a bolt release on the receiver's left and an ambidextrous safety lever, the design prioritizes user convenience. The trigger guard, adaptable for use with heavy winter gloves, is foldable, and the rifle's phosphate finish offers corrosion resistance. High-strength polymers compose the fixed stock, pistol grip, and handguard, minimizing weight.

Equipped with a flash hider that's detachable for alternative muzzle devices, the SG 543-1M is manufactured under license in Chile.

Globally, the SG 543-1 and its 7.62x51 NATO variant, the SG 542-1, have been deployed by numerous military and law enforcement agencies, including those in France, Portugal, and Chile.

Noteworthy for its military-grade build and original manufacturing techniques, the rifle may exhibit minor cosmetic imperfections. It is currently in stock, ready for dispatch, and comes with a manual and one magazine.
